Woman Arrested for Arson in Johnson County

On the morning of Wednesday, June 14, around 12:50am, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint of a structure fire on KY Route 1559 in the Sitka community. When Deputy J.P. Primm arrived on scene, he was advised by members of the Flatgap Fire Department that a female subject, Joyce Stambaugh, 67, was initially refusing to allow the fire department to attempt to douse the fire. Stambaugh said it was her residence and that she intentionally set the fire. During the investigation, it was determined she had no legal claim to the residence. Stambaugh was arrested for third degree arson and menacing and lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
