On Friday, June 16, the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet and Fort Campbell announced the completion of a five megawatt Solar Array Project at Fort Campbell, the largest non-utility solar array in Kentucky. The Kentucky EEC was awarded a $3.1 million grant in December 2012 to begin the project, with Fort Campbell receiving an additional $800,000 grant to fund the project’s second phase. Funding for the project is tied to a 27-year power purchase agreement. According to Colonel Rob Salome, Garrison Commander at Fort Campbell, the solar array represents 10 percent of their total energy utilization.
