A single vehicle crash in Knott County occurred the evening of Wednesday, June 28, claiming the life of a Hindman man. The collision occurred on KY 550 East, near the Mousie community. Kentucky State Police Post 13 dispatchers began receiving calls of the crash around 10:46pm. Troopers responded to the scene on Highway 550 near the junction of Turtle Branch Road. The investigation determined that Cody Fair, 22 of Hindman, was operating a 1988 Chevrolet pick-up truck, traveling eastbound on KY 550. While allegedly attempting to pass another vehicle, Fair lost control of the truck and went off the roadway. He was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the truck, Cory Slone, 18, of Mousie, and Austin Slone, 17, of Hindman, were airlifted for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries received in the crash. Driver impairment is not considered a factor at this time, but standard toxicology results are pending. Fair also not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
