Secretary Grimes Responds to President’s Voter Information Request

On Thursday, June 29, President Trump’s election commission issued requests to Secretaries of State nationwide requesting the personal information –including name, address, social security number, birthdate, political affiliation, and voting history—of every American voter. Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes issued a statement in response to the request. As the Commonwealth’s chief election official, Grimes said she does not intend to release Kentuckians’ sensitive personal data to the federal government. She continued that Kentucky will not aid a commission that is at best a waste of taxpayer money, and at worst an attempt to legitimize voter suppression.
