Beshear Warns of Tobacco Settlement Scam

Attorney General Andy Beshear is warning about a scam claiming Kentuckians can receive tax-free, monthly payments from the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement. Beshear said his office has identified misleading online ads and received reports of scam emails claiming Kentuckians can receive monthly payments directly from the multibillion-dollar MSA. The solicitations proclaim Kentuckians, even if they “never used tobacco,” can receive thousands of dollars each month if they pay $5 a month of up to $100 a year to learn how. Individuals can potentially receive MSA funds through state programs or private lawsuits, but those responding to online ads pay for information to learn how to purchase out of state bonds.
