On Sunday, July 16, around 6pm, Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a man, Kristopher Scalf, 20, holding a gun to his head while standing on the front porch of his residence on Kentucky Highway 11, south of Barbourville. A man, holding a small child, identified himself to deputies upon their arrival, saying two other small children and Scalf’s mother was inside. A gunshot was heard inside the residence. Scalf was determined to be under the influence of methamphetamine at the time. He was arrested and charged with wanton endangerment and possession of controlled substance. He was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center. The children were removed from the residence unharmed and released to the father.
