An organizational meeting was held on Thursday, July 20 at the Pike County Courthouse to protest the rate increase proposed by AEP and Kentucky Power. A rate case notice was issued on June 16, 2017 that Kentucky Power intended to file with the Kentucky Public Service Commission to adjust rate charges to service rendered on and after July 29. The notice proposed a service charge increase from $11.00 to $17.50, with an energy charge of 10.85 cents per KWH. Another purpose of the meeting was to gage public support for changing the way the PSC members are selected, which Senator Ray Jones has attempted before.
