Beshear and Other Attorneys General Send Letter Addressing Sexual Assault Protections on College Campuses

Attorney General Andy Beshear and a group of state attorneys general are asking federal education officials to work with them before rolling back protections for survivors of sexual assault on college campuses. According to a July 19 letter from the 20 attorneys general, the US Department of Education’s current guidance reaffirms the obligation of colleges and universities to protect survivors of sexual assault. The letter, sent to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, mentions comments by an acting federal education official who has reduced efforts to identify systematic problems in conducting campus sexual assault investigations.
