The Chevrolet was forced into the southbound lane of US 119, where it collided with a 2007 Peterbilt tractor and trailer operated by 58-year-old Gary Miniard of Hazard. Three child passengers in the car were transported from the scene for medical treatment, one of which, an 8-year-old female died as a result of her injuries. Bowen and Miniard were not injured. Impairment was not suspected as a factor, but wet road conditions were considered to be a factor.
