A three vehicle collision claimed the life of a child in Letcher County on Thursday, July 27. Kentucky State Police Post 13 Hazard received a call of a multi-vehicle collision on US 119 in the Ermine community, at 12:40pm. Law enforcement and emergency personnel responded to the scene. The initial investigation of the crash determined that Ray Bowen, age 68, of Thornton, was operating a 2002 Dodge Ram pick-up on US 119 North when he collided with a 2015 Chevrolet driven by 35-year-old Katie Hall of Whitesburg. The Chevrolet was forced into the southbound lane of US 119, where it collided with a 2007 Peterbilt tractor and trailer operated by 58-year-old Gary Miniard of Hazard. Three child passengers in the car were transported from the scene for medical treatment, one of which, an 8-year-old female died as a result of her injuries. Bowen and Miniard were not injured. Impairment was not suspected as a factor, but wet road conditions were considered to be a factor.
