Bevin Makes Carnegie Hero Medal Presentations

Governor Matt Bevin hosted a special ceremony at the Kentucky State Capitol on Monday, August 7 to present two distinguished Kentuckians, Lori Doppelheuer Kearney of Maysville and Lou Scharold of Alexandria with the Carnegie Hero Medal. Kearney died attempting to save her three sons from a fire at their Maysville home on October 20, 2015. All four died of smoke inhalation.

Scharold, 72, saved Rumpke truck driver Brian Ashcraft after his vehicle was struck head-on by a pickup truck traveling the wrong direction in Campbell County on April 25, 2016. The award was established in 1904 by Andrew Carnegie to recognize individuals who risk their lives to an extraordinary degree in attempting to save others.
