Floyd County Schools Prepare for Exceptional Learning Opportunity

August 21, 2017 is the first day of the 2017-2018 school year for Floyd County Schools and according to NASA, it will also be the first total solar eclipse visible in the continental US since 1979. Superintendent Steve Trimble said the district is more than ready to begin the new school year and sees the phenomena as the perfect opportunity for every child in Floyd County Schools to learn about and experience an eclipse. Eclipse glasses will be given to every student and staff member on the 21st along with resources to learn about the eclipse. As an added precaution, all schools will dismiss 30 minutes later on August 21st.
