Floyd County Schools has announced that they will now dismiss early on August 21, 2017. Superintendent Steve Trimble said that after receiving the glasses that were ordered, they were unable to verify that they met specifications for safe viewing of the eclipse. He added that while they regret not being able to experience the event with students, their safety and that of the staff is most important. Learning activities will still be offered to students to learn about the solar eclipse. Elementary schools in Floyd County will dismiss at 11am on August 21, with Middle and High Schools and the Renaissance Learning Center dismissing at 11:15am.
