Attorneys General Send Letter to Congress Urging Amendment to Communications Decency Act

Attorneys General across the country sent a letter to Congress Wednesday, August 16, declaring the current Communications Decency Act needs to be amended in order to hold accountable those who promote and facilitate child sex trafficking online. According to the letter, “the CDA, which was intended to protect children from indecent material on the internet, is now being used as a shield by those who profit from the prostitution and crimes against children.” The Attorneys General urge Congress to amend the CDA to clarify that, along with federal authorities, states and territories retain the right to investigate and prosecute online facilitators of child sex trafficking.
