Perry County Couple Sentenced for Fraud

On Monday, August 14, a Perry County couple, who owned several trucking companies, were sentenced to 56 months in prison for defrauding and extorting over 60 customers. Elliot Campbell, 50, was convicted for wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit extortion. His wife, Melinda Campbell, had previously been sentenced on May 24, 2017. Evidence at trial established, from 2010 until 2012, the Campbells induced shipping brokers to enter into contracts with special conditions, then holding the cargo hostage after intentionally failing to fulfill specified delivery conditions. Following complaints, they continued this practice using new companies and false names.
