A Letcher County woman has been confirmed dead in a Black Hawk helicopter crash that occurred on Tuesday, August 15. Army Staff Sergeant Abigail Milam, of Jenkins, Kentucky, went missing along with Kathryn Bailey, Michael Nelson, and two other soldiers after their helicopter crash off Oahu’s North Shore. Bailey and Nelson were also confirmed dead by the Armed Forces Medical Examiner, with the other two soldiers still missing. Milam has served in active duty since August 2011 and received recognitions such as the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon.
