On Wednesday, September 13, around 2:20pm, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office received a tip of a suspicious vehicle parked at the Thealka Fire Department on KY 581. Deputies responded to the scene to investigate the vehicle. The driver, Carl Butcher, 45 of Paintsville, was determined to be under the influence following field sobriety tests. Prescription drugs and a snorting straw were found in his possession. After consent to search the vehicle was given, deputies found Oxycodone and Nuerontin in different containers. Further investigation determined Butcher was distributing the drugs and was set to meet someone when he was interrupted by deputies. His cell phones were seized into evidence. Butcher was arrested and charged with DUI, trafficking controlled substance, prescription drugs not in proper container, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
