On Monday, October 2, a ceremony was held at American Electric Power in Coal Run, where AEP and Kentucky Power presented the Eastern Kentucky Chapter of the American Red Cross with a grant of $150,000. The grant will go toward the purchase of an emergency response vehicle for eastern Kentucky, as well as 5,000 meals for distribution during any future emergency. Kentucky Power President Matt Satterwhite said the vehicle will help the Red Cross to respond quickly to emergencies in the communities. This will be the first dedicated ERV in eastern Kentucky to serve the region and surrounding areas.
