Governor Matt Bevin announced Thursday that Paintsville was the winner of the 2017 “Beautify the Bluegrass” competition, a statewide initiative calling on Kentuckians to come together to make their hometowns shine. Local volunteers working with the Paintsville/Johnson County Trail Town Committee repainted buildings downtown, refurbished Paint Creek Park, and cleaned up public areas and abandoned properties. Laure Pack, Trail Town Committee member, said their feeling of community has been greatly strengthened through the project. Governor Bevin and Lt. Gov. Jenean Hampton will host a catered barbecue (not provided at taxpayer expense) in Paintsville to celebrate the community’s achievement at a date to be determined.
