Attorney General Andy Beshear and his Special Prosecutions Unit announced on October 18 that a Boone County man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for beating a seven-week-old child to death. Cody Jene Phelps, 25, of Walton, plead guilty in September 2017 to first-degree manslaughter and two counts of first-degree criminal abuse. According to prosecutors, the child, Aiden Wainscott, was found unresponsive in his crib in November 2015. He was the child of Phelps’ girlfriend and transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Phelps will not be eligible for probation or shock probation.
