Four Arrested in Laurel County Following Drug Search Warrant Execution

A drug search in Laurel County has lead to the arrest of four individuals. Around 5:34pm Wednesday, November 1, 2017, Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with K-9 Gypsy executed a drug search warrant at the residence of James Edward Scalf off Star Hill Road. Detectives and deputies located a large amount of suspected crystal meth and drug paraphernalia, including scales and pipes. A vehicle leaving the residence almost hit deputies’ cruisers. A traffic stop was conducted, resulting in DUI and drug charges on its occupants, who told deputies they had just gotten meth from the residence. Scalf, 45 was charged with trafficking controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia; James Smith, 37, was charged with parole violation; the driver of the vehicle, Richard Smith, 56, was charged with DUI, and, along with David Pennington, 41, was charged with possession of controlled substance and paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence. All four were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
