Governor Matt Bevin has appointed Charles Compton, of Pikeville, to the position of Magistrate for the Second District of Pike County. Compton will replace Vernon Johnson, who passed away on November 5, 2017. Compton is the owner and operator of Shelby Valley Auto Sales and an active member of the community. He said he is humbled by the trust Governor Bevin has placed in him to finished out Johnson’s term. Compton’s appointment takes effect immediately and he will serve until the position is filled in accordance with the results of the November 2018 midterm election, pursuant to the provisions of Section 152 of the Kentucky Constitution.
