The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a phone scam circulating in the Laurel County area where a male caller is calling citizens reporting either that they have won a trip, a prize, or accumulated enough points for a prize. Often times, the phone number appears to a be a local number, however it is not. Scammers are using spoofing technology to program any phone number to appear on your caller ID to look like a local number. Citizens are advised to be aware and the Sheriff’s office recommends that if you do not recognize the number calling your house to not answer your phone. If a voicemail is left by someone citizens don’t recognize they are also advised to disregard it.
