With more winter weather possibly moving into the state, the Kentucky State Police is cautioning motorists to be prepared for hazardous driving conditions. KSP spokesman Sergeant Josh Lawson, said winter driving can present formidable challenges, including sleet, snow, slick roads, freezing temperatures and reduced visibility, making a deadly combination if not prepared. KSP reported that slippery roads were the contributing factor in over 12,000 crashes and 51 highway deaths in 2016. To meet the challenges of the upcoming winter driving season, drivers are reminded to plan ahead, make sure all passengers are properly restrained, drive defensively, and ensure their vehicle is properly maintained to handle the effects of cold temperatures. Motorists are also advised to check road and weather conditions before leaving and reduce speed in wintery conditions.
