Kentucky Poison Control Center Bracing for Calls About Medicine Overdoses

The cold and flu season is upon us and the Kentucky Poison Control Center is bracing for calls about medicine overdoses. Often people treat cold and flu symptoms with over the counter medications and Kentucky Poison Control Center director Ashley Webb says they need to pay attention to labels. Webb says a lot of these medications contain the same products and people often are trying to treat multiple symptoms and need multiple products, many containing acetaminophen. Taking more than one antihistamine can cause an overdose and potentially lead to hallucinations, comas and even death. Webb Says never give antihistamines to children and keep all meds out of reach and sight of children. Those fearing an overdose can call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.
