A two-vehicle crash occurred in near Grethel on Thursday, December 14, 2017. The accident happened on RT 979 near the mouth of Dry Branch after 8pm Thursday evening. A 2006 Hyundai, driven by 37-year-old Chris Hamilton, collided with a 1999 Ford driven by 43-year-old Kimberly Akers. Hamilton’s passenger, 38-year-old Heidi Hamilton, died as a result of injuries sustained from the crash. Floyd County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Pike County Deputies, are reconstructing the accident.
