Bell County Man Arrested for Attempted Murder of Police Officers

On Monday, December 18, 2017, around 1:13am, Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan received a call from the Bell County Sheriff’s Department to investigate the exchange of gunfire from a suspect and officers with their agency. Troopers were dispatched to the scene. Preliminary investigation determined Bell County Sheriff’s Department and Pineville Police attempted to serve a search warrant at a residence in the Fourmile community of Bell County. When officers arrived and announced themselves as law enforcement, the suspect, identified as Buford Warren, opened fire through a window. After authorities returned fire, the suspect surrendered. Warren, 51, was arrested and charged with five counts of attempted murder of a police officer, wanton endangerment, and assault.
