The Hazard Police Department is reporting a possible phone scam. Hazard Police are reporting a citizen received a call on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from someone identifying themselves as an employee of Windstream Communications. The caller told the citizen they had detected a virus on their personal computer and router and asked them to perform some functions on their computer. The citizen ended the call and contacted Windstream, who said they had not made the call. Citizens are reminded that scammers can use technology to make their phone numbers to be local, and to report any suspicious calls you may receive.
