Governor Matt Bevin has issued special writs of election for February 2018 in House Districts 49 and 89. The special election to fill the vacancy in House District 49 will be held February 20, 2018, while the special election for the seat expected to be vacant in House 89 will be on February 27, 2017. Representative Dan Johnson’s death earlier this month prompted the vacancy in District 49 that encompasses a part of Bullitt County. According to the Governor’s Office, effective December 31, 2017, Representative Marie Rader is resigning her seat in the chamber, which represents Jackson County and parts of Laurel and Madison Counties. The deadline for candidates to file with the Secretary of State for District 49 is January 2 at 4pm, and District 89 candidate deadline is January 9 at 4pm.
