Laurel County Man Arrested for DUI after Fleeing Police

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office made a DUI arrest off McWhorter Road on Sunday, January 7, 2018. The arrest occurred around 2:59am, after Deputy Gary Mehler witnessed a white colored Chrysler 300 driving 23 miles over the speed limit on Hall Rogers Parkway. Deputy Mehler activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to make a stop, to which the driver did not comply. After the vehicle stopped in a driveway off McWhorter Road, an investigation was conducted which determined the drive, identified as 18-year-old Matthan Fields, was under the influence. Fields was charged with speeding, fleeing or evading police, DUI, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, along with other charges. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
