A gas leak occurred at the Prestonsburg Municipal Building the morning of Monday, January 15, 2018. According to Mayor Les Stapletone, a heating and cooling unit in the building had a leak, which had the smell of gas around city hall. Levels never reached the point of being explosive or life threatening. The building was evacuated just before noon and everyone was allowed back inside by 1:30pm.
