On Thursday, January 11, 2018, Kentucky Representative Kelly Flood has filed a bill for a gas tax to help fund school buses. House Bill 211 would add a three-cent fee to the state’s gas tax and permanently dedicate the revenue to replenishing aging bus fleets. Representative Flood said the bill said the bill will make sure that a portion of what we all pay for our highways goes toward getting students safely to and from school. All of the fee, estimated at $90 million, would be directed to school transportation budgets. The legislation will be considered during the current legislative session, which will end in April.
