Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call advising of an overturned vehicle in the waters of Quicksand Creek on Highway 30 East in Breathitt County on Thursday, January 25, 2018. Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the scene around 9:48am. At the scene, investigators observed a 2005 Ford pickup truck overturned in the creek. Two individuals were found inside, later identified as Jimmy Clemons, 35, and his uncle, Calvin Clemons, 42, both of Hardshell, KY. They were pronounced dead at the scene by Breathitt County Coroner George Griffith. Initial investigation indicates that the truck was traveling southbound on Airport Road when it crossed both lanes of Highway 30 and traveled over an embankment and overturned into Quicksand Creek. Impairment is being considered as a possible factor in the crash, and neither occupant appeared to be wearing a seat belt. Autopsies will be performed on both victims.
