The Kentucky Department for Public Health is reporting 117 cases of Hepatitis A in an ongoing multi-county outbreak, many in the Jefferson County/Louisville area. According to the department, 96 cases were reported in Jefferson County, with outbreak-associated cases also found in Boyd, Bullitt, Carter, Hopkins, Leslie, Marion, McCracken and Taylor Counties. The primary risk factors for Kentucky cases have been illicit drug use and homelessness. No single source of infection has been identified, with transmission believed to be occurring through person-to-person contact. No deaths have been attributed to the outbreak in Kentucky since it was first reported in November 2017.
