Scammers Posing as Law Enforcement Officials Via Text Messages

A scam alert has been issued for con artists posing as law enforcement officials demanding payment and threatening arrest via text messages. Attorney General Andy Beshear said Kentuckians are reporting text messages from the scammers identifying themselves as prosecutors and police officers claiming a lawsuit or arrest warrant has been issued. The scammers demand payment within 30 minutes or the victim will go to jail for six months. Beshear said the best way to avoid the scam is to know that no law enforcement office would ever send a text message to demand a payment or threaten arrest. To report a scam to the Office of the Attorney General, call 1-888-432-9257.
