With the 2018 Kentucky General Assembly winding down, leaders in the Kentucky business community are stepping up calls to address the Kentucky Public Pension crisis. In an op-ed piece sent to Kentucky newspapers this week, the head of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce is joining Chamber Presidents from major cities to urge action on Senate Bill One, designed to shore up the ailing pension plans. Kentucky Chamber President Dave Adkisson says inaction is not an option. He said everything we expect from state government is hindered because of the debt, which is four to six times the state’s annual income. Adkisson says it will take a generation to solve the problem but feels SB1 is the proper vehicle to do it. He says while the state must make good on its promises to public employees, the public must be protected from the ravages of the pension problem as well.
