Attorney General Andy Beshear is urging Kentuckians to take steps to avoid falling victim to scams during National Consumer Protection Week, which runs from March 4 to March 10, 2018. In a new report from the Federal Trade Commission, Kentuckians made more than 22,000 fraud reports and 3,000 reports of identity theft in 2017. Scammers and identity thieves took more than $6 million from Kentucky families last year. Steps citizens can take to avoid scams include checking your credit, update and strengthen online passwords, hold back on providing personal information, clean out and shred old documents, stop use of untraceable methods of payment, and sign up for scam alerts visiting ag.ky.gov.
