Two Arrested for Drug Trafficking in Harlan County Traffic Stop

On Tuesday, March 6, 2018, Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop while on patrol in the Baxter area. Upon making contact with the operator of the vehicle, a strong odor of marijuana was detected. A further search of the vehicle and the occupants located methamphetamine, marijuana, a weapon, scales, and over $7,000 cash. The operator of the vehicle, Jim Gilbert, 31, of Harlan, was charged with trafficking in controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of handgun by a convicted felon and other traffic related charges. A passenger, 43-year-old Roy Allen of Dayholt, was charged with trafficking in controlled substance and marijuana, carrying a concealed weapon, and public intoxication. Both were lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.
