Floyd County Schools has announced the results for their students at the State Governor’s Cup competition held on Monday, March 19, 2018 in Louisville. Kade Scott of Floyd Central High School placed 8th in Kentucky on the Arts & Humanities and General Knowledge written assessments. According to Brenda Darnell, Program Director for the Kentucky Academic Association Conference, an estimated 20,000 students across Kentucky compete in the Governor’s Cup. The Floyd Central High School team was also the State Runner Up for Community Problem Solving. The team partnered with Appalachian Regional Hospital to raise awareness on heart health, handing out informational pamphlets and having blood pressure screenings at a basketball game. The team also partnered with school drama and media departments in creating audio and video public service announcements. The Floyd Central High School Community Problem Solving Team has been invited to compete in the International Competition in La Crosse, Wisconsin in June.
