Crews in the seven counties of Highway District 12 will be removing signs that are illegally installed on state property throughout March 26-30, 2018. It is illegal to place a sign on a state right-of-way, as well as attach a sign to a structure already installed on a state right-of-way. Highway workers have an ongoing directive to remove such signs from roadsides and intersections. District 12 includes Lawrence, Johnson, Floyd, Martin, Knott, Pike, and Letcher counties. Signs will be kept at the nearest maintenance facility for about a month in case the owner wants them back so they can be put on private property.
