A Harlan County miner died following an accident that occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 28, 2018. The accident happened around 2:00am at an underground mine owned by Revelation Energy when Hubert Grubbs, Jr., 29, was splicing a conveyor belt, which started unexpectedly and caused fatal injuries. Grubbs was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a release from the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, all mining operations at the D11 Panther Mine were shut down Wednesday after the fatality and are being suspended while an investigation into the fatal accident continues.
