Update: Following up on a story in Bell County about suspicious individuals involved in a traffic stop in Bell County on Sunday, April 8, 2018, the Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan located one of the individuals involved in the incident. KSP Trooper George Howard located and interviewed Constable Jeffrey Bowling from Middlesboro. Constable Bowling stated he made a traffic stop on the alleged victim. Constable Bowling is an elected official in Bell County. He had stopped the driver for speeding and let her go with a warning before she was pulled over again nearly a mile away by a suspicious individual in a navy blue SUV. At this time, KSP is continuing this investigation.
Original story: On April 8, 2018, Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan began an investigation in Bell County where an individual was pulled over by two unmarked vehicles less than one mile part on US 25E. This occurred near the Bell County Veterinarian Clinic and the Imperial Bait Shop in the Middlesboro community of Bell County. Preliminary investigation indicates a female was traveling on US 25E when an unmarked green SUV pulled her over. A male wearing a red Carhartt jacket with a badge around his neck approached the vehicle and stated that she was speeding but did not ask for paper work. He advised her to slow down and let her go. Less than one mile later she was stopped again by a navy blue SUV. A male individual approached the vehicle and asked for her license. The unknown person wasn’t wearing a badge anywhere visible. He began screaming at her and hitting her window. The victim stated she was calling State Police and the individual ran back to his vehicle and left. Kentucky State Police will provide extra patrol in the area. If anyone has any information about these vehicles or individuals, they are urged to contact Post 10 at 606-573-3131.
