Floyd County Superintendent Steve Trimble has announced the Floyd County students who have been selected for the Kentucky Governor’s Scholar Program, an enhanced summer learning program for students going into their senior year of high school. Along with an incredible experience, students receive scholarships that average more than $60,000, depending on the college/university the student selects. The students selected are Casey Hall, of Betsy Layne High School; Cole DeRossett and Jacob Morris of Floyd Central High School; Lisa Bates, Haley Shepherd, MaKayla Slone, and Emily West of Prestonsburg High School. The selection process for the Governor’s Scholar Program is detailed and competitive. Along with a written essay, students are judged on the quality of their grades and test scores. Trimble said he and the board team are very proud of these students, and the hard work and dedication it takes to be selected. He concluded that they encourage all students who have good grades and good test scores to talk to their guidance counselor about the Governor’s Scholar Program.
