The University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Optometry held its first White Coat Ceremony for the inaugural Class of 2020 on Saturday, April 14, 2018. The event was held on campus in the Health Professions Education Building. The White Coat Ceremony is symbolic within health professions, reflecting a commitment to patient care. Donnie Akers, O.D., interim dean at KYCO, told students, “You’ve earned the right to provide direct patient care,” adding the white coat is a symbol of a life of service to others.
