On Tuesday, May 1, 2018, the Floyd County Board of Education held a special called meeting at May Valley Elementary to determine a new superintendent for the Floyd County School District. Following an executive session, the school board voted to offer the position to Dany Adkins, Jr. The board voted four yes and one no, and proceeded to offer him the position. Linda Gearheart, a member of the Floyd County School Board, voted no to the hiring of Adkins, feeling the position should have gone to someone in the county. Adkins is currently the personnel director for the Pike County School District. Sherry Robinson, chairperson for the Floyd County School Board, said the decision making process was not an easy one. Adkins said he felt humbled by being offered the position following the lengthy search process, and feels his ability to connect with others will serve him well going forward. His contract will employ him as superintendent of the Floyd County School District for a period beginning July 1, 2018 and ending on June 30, 2020.
