On Tuesday, May 8, 2018, University of Pikeville President Burton J. Webb announced the appointment of Michael Bacigalupi, O.D., M.S., FAAO, as dean of the University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Optometry, effective July 1, 2018. Webb said Bacigalupi was selected after an extensive search that brought four qualified candidates to campus. He added that Dr. Bacigalupi had a unique mix of leadership and experience that made him a great choice to lead the optometry school. Bacigalupi has 13 years of experience in optometric education and previously served as the assistant dean for Student Affairs and Admissions at Nova Southeastern University-College of Optometry in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He said he is honored to begin his role as dean and will strive to help the school achieve its mission of becoming a leading center of optometric education in the country.
