Eastern Kentucky Eye Center Owner and Ex-Wife Indicted on Medicaid Fraud Charges

An Eastern Kentucky eye center owner and his former wife were indicted on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 on theft and Medicaid fraud charges. Optician Marcus Minix, 67, of Lexington, and Amy Slone, 34, of Prestonsburg have each been charged with one count of theft by unlawful taking of property over $10,000 and one count of devising or engaging in a scheme to defraud the Kentucky medical assistance program of $300 or more. The indictment alleges that in 2015 and 2016, false billings were submitted on behalf of Minix Eye Care, PSC, a company owned by Minix and formerly in Paintsville and Prestonsburg, for eye care services that were never provided but that were paid for by Medicaid. Slone and Minix were married at the time and allegedly withdrew large amounts of money from the Minix Eye Care accounts where Medicaid payments were deposited. Arraignment is scheduled in Franklin County Circuit Court on June 8, 2018.
