A two vehicle crash in the Payne Gap community of Letcher County claimed the life of a Jessamine County man. Troopers with Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard responded to the collision scene on US 119 North just before 9:30pm on Wednesday, May 16, 2018. The initial investigation of the collision determined that Shelly Damron, age 36, of Ashcamp, was traveling south on US 119 in a 2011 Ford Expedition. The vehicle crossed the centerline and continued into the northbound lane where it collided with a 1993 Ford F150 pickup truck driven by 56-year-old Craig Carter of Whitesburg. Camron and Carter were transported to Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and were later released. A passenger in the F-150 pickup, 32-year-old Joshua Carter, of Nicholasville, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Letcher County Coroner Renee Campbell. While this incident remains under investigation, no apparent contributing factors have been determined at this time. Toxicology results are pending.
