The University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine has graduated its first students from the Osteopathic Medical Scholars Program. The eight-year program allows qualified students to obtain a Bachelor of Art of Bachelor of Science degree, and later earn the degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. The first two students to complete the program are Sarah Helphinstine, D.O., and Luke Wright, D.O., graduated in KYCOM’s Class of 2018. Helphinstine will begin her residence training this summer at the University of Kentucky-College of Medicine’s East Kentucky Family Medicine Residency program in Hazard. Wright will begin a general surgery residency this summer in Chicago, with plans to return to Kentucky upon completion of his residency program.
