The U.S. House Budget Committee released a proposal on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 that would balance the budget in nine years. Included cuts of the budget would include cutting Over $500 billion from Medicare, and allowing states to turn Medicaid into a block-grant program. Additionally, $4 billion would be cut from Social Security by eliminating concurrent receipts of unemployment benefits and Social Security disability insurance. According to the Washington Post, U.S. Representative John Yarmuth of Kentucky said the proposal’s “repeal of the Affordable Care Act and extreme cuts to health care, retirement security, anti-poverty programs, education, infrastructure, and other critical investments are real and will inflict serious harm on American families.”
