Unemployment rates fell in 117 Kentucky counties between May 2017 and May 2018, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics. According to the report, unemployment rates rose in Owen and Spencer counties in the twelve month period, while remaining the same in Oldham County. Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 2.9 percent, followed by Campbell and Scott counties at 3.1 percent each. Magoffin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 12 percent, followed by 7.6 percent in Elliot County, and 7.4 percent in Carter County. The comparable, unadjusted unemployment rate for the state was 4.2 percent for May 2018, and 3.6 percent for the nation.
